Hijab-wearing right does not come in Article 25 of the Constitution, Karnataka govt tells HC
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court IN its eighth day of hearings Tuesday began hearing various petitions that challenge the hijab ban in schools across the state. Karnataka Advocate General Prabhuling Navadgi Tuesday argued that there isn't any restriction regarding wearing hijab within India and that reasonable limits are, subject to the discipline of institutions. In opposition to protesters Muslim students of Udupi district who questioned the ban on Hijab within schools, Navadgi said the right to wear a headscarf is a matter of 19(1)(A) is not Article 25 as has been claimed by petitioners. Citing the case of France in which there is an absolute ban on wearing hijab wearing in public, the AG said that it does not mean that one can claim there's no Islamic religion in the country.
