Prime Minister Narendra Modi AppealsnTo Russian President Putin for Immediate Peace in Ukraine
The Prime Secretary Narendra Modi dialled Russian president Vladimir Putin today, appealing for an immediate stop of the ongoing violence within Ukraine which began today. The call came just hours after Ukraine's urgent call to India for help. A statement by the Prime Minister's Office said PM Modi demanded "concerted efforts by all parties to bring us back to the path of dialogue and diplomatic negotiations".
He repeated the "long-standing belief that disagreements among Russia as well as the NATO group cannot be solved by honest and sincere dialog," the statement read.
President Putin has briefed PM Modi on the recent developments in Ukraine.
He also spoke about India's concerns about the security of Indian citizens living in Ukraine and Ukraine, particularly the students. India is, as he stated, is the most concerned about their safe return and exit.
"The leaders also agreed that their diplomatic and official teams would continue to keep regular contact with respect to issues of interest to the world," the statement added.
Russia has begun the military operation against Ukraine in the early hours of this morning following months of tensions regarding the former Soviet state's closeness to NATO.

Responses "At the CCS meeting PM Modi has said that the primary concern for the state is security and safety of Indian citizens, including students in Ukraine," said Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla.
